A first haircut

A child's first haircut, step by step

A short visit, a patient stylist and a parent in the next seat.

  1. 01
    Before you come

Step 1: Book a first haircut

Choose the first haircut on the menu. No deposit is needed. Tell us if anything helps your child feel at ease.

  2. 02
    When you arrive

Step 2: Come in and settle

Sit on the couch for a few minutes first. Your child can look around, meet the stylist and see the chair.

  3. 03
    About 30 min

    Step 3: The cut

Your child sits on a booster seat, on a parent's lap if that is easier. We go at their pace, with scissors or clippers.

  4. 04
    The keepsake

Step 4: A curl to take home

We tuck a curl in an envelope, take a picture if you like and write the date on it.

Getting ready

A few things that help

  • Time it well

Pick a time after a nap and a snack, when your child is at their best.

  • Talk it through

Tell them a stylist will cut a little of their hair, and they can ask for a pause any time.

  • Bring a comfort

A favorite toy or a book makes the chair feel like their own.

  • Stay close

You are welcome to hold your child or sit in the next chair the whole time.

About first haircuts

What age is a first haircut?

Whenever you are ready. We cut children from their very first haircut, and a parent stays in the shop while they are in the chair.

What if my child cries or won't sit?

It happens often and it is fine. We take it slowly, pause when your child needs it, and finish only as much as they are comfortable with.

Can I take pictures?

Yes, take as many as you like. We are happy to take one of you both before you go.
